Job Summary
Reporting to the Head, Metals & Mining M&A, East and Head, M&A, Australia, this role leads execution of M&M transactions and assists with origination and developing client relationships in the region.
Strategy
Participate in development and execution of M&A strategy in the Metals & Mining sector in Australia.
Support M&M Management in the implementation of the M&M Australia client strategy, the market positioning strategy and the customer value proposition while ensuring alignment with the Group Code of Conduct.
Work with the bank's sector teams and regional teams to drive the M&M M&A business and ensure alignment with their respective business plans.
Work to meet the milestones against which the progress of the M&M M&A Australia strategy is measured.
Business
Work with the M&M management to originate and execute buy-side and sell-side M&M M&A transactions across APAC.
Engage with senior decision makers at our clients and work towards becoming a trusted advisor.
Take on increasing responsibilities for origination of M&A M&M mandates.
Leverage the bank's network to identify and drive cross-border transactions.
Work with M&M management to reinforce a high-performance culture with a particular focus on pitching intensity, execution quality and client satisfaction while evaluating constant trade-offs involving risk management and resource deployment.
Assist with driving financial performance towards the budget for M&A M&M Australia.
Support M&M management to evaluate the suitability of M&A advice and consider material aspects at the appropriate governing committees.
Processes
Support M&M management to manage the implementation of policies and control standards set by risk control owners and policy owners, ensuring compliance and operating within risk tolerance and risk appetite.
Ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems, controls and procedures relating to M&A Australia, that they are regularly and independently tested, assessed and improved in a timely manner.
Support M&M management to drive continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes to increase the consistency of global systems and processes.
Support M&M management to ensure that systems, controls, and procedures are commensurate with the nature, scale, and complexity of the M&A M&M Australia business, taking into account all relevant circumstances (including the external environment).
Support M&M management to ensure that there is a framework for effective management of operational risks within M&A M&M Australia and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations.
Support M&M management to support the delivery of the M&A M&M Australia strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis – incorporating infrastructure requirements and building a business that is fit-for-growth.
People & Talent
Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values.
Set appropriate tone and expectations for M&A M&M Australia business and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
Assist with day-to-day management of junior team members.
Coaching and development of junior team members.
Risk Management
Support the M&M management to ensure there are appropriate frameworks in place so that the M&A M&M Australia business is carried out within the Group's risk appetite and reputational and other non-financial risks are appropriately managed in conjunction with direct reports and other stakeholders.
Comply with the highest standards of regulatory conduct and compliance standards and practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
This includes compliance with anti-money laundering regulations and guidelines.
Ensure any audit and compliance issues relating to the M&A M&M Australia business are resolved in a timely manner.
Ensure that Risk Management matters that are brought to the job-holder's attention are subject to direct remedial action and/or escalated, where appropriate to relevant risk committees.
Governance
Enforce a culture of risk management, control and governance, and ensure that M&A M&M Australia complies with the risk management processes in place.
Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.

Qualifications
Highly motivated individuals with a strong record of achievement in academics.
Superior analytical aptitude, creative problem-solving abilities, strong accounting and corporate finance skills.
Ability to excel in both team and self-directed settings.
Strong work ethic, high attention to detail and ability to demonstrate initiative.
Excellent numerical skills.
Bachelor or post graduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, law, engineering, mathematics or other relevant degrees.
At least 5 years' experience in investment banking is preferred but other relevant experience will also be considered.
Prior experience in the resources sector will be highly regarded but is not essential.
