POSITION SUMMARY
This fixed‑term arrangement is made under the Fair Work Act and relates solely to the temporary backfilling of an approved parental leave absence.
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) provides primary clinical health care services to clients attending the Aboriginal Health Service, both within the clinic and in community settings. This role works as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive and culturally safe care.

This Includes
Advising and assisting non‑Aboriginal clinical staff on cultural, community and language matters that may impact client care.
Providing advice and clinical care within the AHP Scope of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Medical Practitioner.
Liaising with SCHC Palliative Care staff to provide advocacy and support to Aboriginal clients affected by terminal illness.

Health Service Delivery
Provide clinical services within the AHP Scope of Practice and consistent with qualifications.
Contribute to Aboriginal Health Checks and perform basic physical assessments.
Provide 1:1 patient education on healthy lifestyle choices and services available from external agencies.
Assist clients with organising referrals including appointments and transport.
Advocate for clients regarding health concerns when requested.
Submit claim forms under own provider number for eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
Complete required data entry and reporting as per the KPI Quality Improvement Summary and external reporting requirements (Department of Health, VACCHO, etc.).
Complete recalls and reminders weekly.
Ensure documentation meets professional and organisational standards.
Support health promotion program development, delivery and monitoring.
Maintain collaborative relationships with other agencies to benefit clients and MDAS.
Promote client self‑management and maximise Medicare item utilisation aligned with AHP scope.
Uphold values that respect historical and contemporary Aboriginal cultures.
Comply with all Quality, Risk, OHS legislation, policies and safe work practices.
Actively monitor and contribute to quality and safety improvements.
Participate in internal and external audits.
Contribute positively to MDAS' culture, values and reputation.
Demonstrate MDAS Competencies as listed above.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice or Community).
Current practising registration with AHPRA, including professional indemnity cover.
Current Driver's Licence valid in Australia.
Employee Working with Children Check.
National Police Check.
