We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team, responsible for supporting the APAC Legal Team on a range of legal activities.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
* Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, including software licensing, SaaS agreements, service agreements, vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
* Providing practical, commercially focused advice on contractual terms and risks.
* Advising on Intellectual Property matters.
* Advising on compliance with Australian privacy laws (e.g., Privacy Act 1988, Australian Privacy Principles) and other relevant data protection regulation in APAC (Singapore and New Zealand).
* Advising on data handling practices, privacy policies, data breach response, and cybersecurity legal aspects.
* Assistance with, and being able to instruct external counsel, on corporate transactions, including M&A activities, joint ventures, and strategic investments (as applicable from time to time).
* Monitoring and advising on a broad range of regulatory compliance matters relevant to the technology sector (e.g., AI, consumer law, competition law, telecommunications, emerging tech regulations).
* Developing and delivering legal training to internal stakeholders.
* Managing and advising on potential disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations.
* Working with and instructing external counsel where necessary.
* Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks across the business.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia with a current practising certificate.
* Minimum of 8 years Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) gained at a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department.
* Demonstrated experience in a technology company or advising technology clients is highly desirable.
* Strong expertise in commercial law, contract negotiation, intellectual property, and data privacy.
* Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
* Exceptional Legal Acumen: Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide clear, concise, and commercially relevant legal advice.
* A pragmatic approach to legal issues, balancing legal risk with business objectives.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
* Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a strong ability to identify issues and develop effective strategies.
* Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Adaptability and ability to thrive in an evolving environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
