Mechanical Operations Manager
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Operations Manager to lead our mechanical operations team and drive operational excellence in Port Hedland, WA.
This is a pivotal role that requires strong leadership skills, technical knowledge of mechanical systems, and the ability to motivate and manage a team of skilled mechanics.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-performing teams, implementing maintenance best practices, and driving process optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide hands-on supervision and strategic leadership to a team of skilled mechanics, ensuring all activities align with strict safety and quality benchmarks.
* Oversee day-to-day operations of mechanical works, driving efficiency and precision across all project phases.
* Conduct proactive inspections and diagnostics of machinery and equipment, quickly addressing issues to minimise downtime and maximise asset reliability.
* Develop, implement, and continuously refine preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring peak operational performance.
* Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, embedding best practices across all activities.
* Mentor, coach, and upskill mechanics, fostering talent pipelines and workforce capability.
* Maintain comprehensive, compliant records for maintenance, repairs, inventory, and statutory requirements.
* Liaise and collaborate cross-functionally with project management, procurement, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
* Identify, source, and optimise procurement of mechanical parts and services, driving cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
* Initiate and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, asset longevity, and value delivery.
* Promote adherence to all HSE policies, leading by example in establishing a zero-harm culture.
Key Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years supervisory experience within mechanical or heavy industrial environments mining, resources, or major projects preferred.
* Extensive hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems pumps, motors, conveyors, hydraulics, and related assets.
* Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage diverse technical teams to deliver operational targets.
* Demonstrated expertise in implementing maintenance best practices and process optimisation.
* Strong technical literacy, with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and manuals.
* Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Deep commitment to safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
* Innovative problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Relevant trade qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (highly regarded).
* Current and valid driver's license, with flexibility to travel to project and site locations as required.
