What you will be required to do:

In this role you will actively participate as a member of the communications team to advise on, develop, implement and provide strategic communication services for community engagement, media relations, issues management, public affairs, internal communications and stakeholder relationship management to ensure effective relationship outcomes for the Wide Bay Burnett District.


Accountabilities include

* Assist the communications team leader in providing communication advice and support to district staff on risk assessment, issues management, community consultation and communication strategies using appropriate communication tools.
* Coordinate and write executive correspondence, media statements, responses to media inquiries, speech notes, and other communication material for the Minister's office and senior management.
* Assist with and undertake community engagement and stakeholder consultation activities during project development and delivery.
* Develop and implement communication strategies, activities and procedures which assist the district to achieve its strategic objectives.
* Gather information and write articles for various publications, including newsletters and information brochures, and prepare promotional materials.

This position reports to the Communications Advisor.


Mandatory requirements

* A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing is highly desirable.
* Experience in a strategic communication or community engagement role in an environment dealing with major infrastructure projects, particularly in the transport or civil engineering sector, will also be highly regarded.


Role/occupational capabilities

* Community Engagement - Uses understanding of community engagement practices to develop effective public consultation activities and maintain stakeholder relations.
* Executive Correspondence - Uses understanding of executive correspondence techniques to develop accurate ministerials, briefing notes and executive letters in a timely manner
* Acts proactively - Is self-directed and works flexibly without supervision (i.e. effectively manages new and unexpected events, and demonstrates judgement about when to elevate issues)
* Manages Internal and external relationships - Models open communication, actively and attentively listens to others, demonstrates a friendly and engaging interpersonal style, builds networks with peers, works collaboratively with others.
