1 x Senior Research Fellow / Associate Professor (Level C/D) and 1 x Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow (Level B/C) Full-time, 3 years fixed term (with potential to extend) researcher roles in the Snow Vision Accelerator to drive a new research and drug development initiative at the University of Sydney. Establish and build bioinformatics analytical capacity associated with multi-omics data analysis and drug discovery Base salary, Level B/C/D $122,830 - $199,585 17% superannuation and C/D $150,461 - $199,585 17% superannuation About the opportunity We seek to appoint two Research Fellows / Senior Research Fellows / Associate Professor in Bioinformatics to work in the Snow Vision Accelerator at the University of Sydney. The Snow Vision Accelerator is an ambitious research and drug development focused on transforming the treatment of glaucoma by uncovering the molecular mechanisms through which aging and associated metabolic dysfunction increase the vulnerability of the optic nerve to injury and neurodegeneration. The program integrates cutting-edge biology, data science, and drug discovery and translational strategies to systematically identify, validate, and target the key age-related pathways that predispose individuals to glaucomatous damage. The two research group leaders will be at the forefront of establishing the bioinformatics capability and expertise within the Snow Vision Accelerator. These roles within a new initiative offer an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with a diverse community of experts, including computational scientists, experimental scientists, preclinical researchers, specialists in wearables data, epidemiologists, data linkage experts, and social scientists with access to extensive datasets in their respective fields Your key responsibilities will be to: drive the bioinformatics research program in alignment with the goals of the Snow Vision Accelerator and to increase the computational capacity at the University and beyond. Focus areas will include increasing capacity in multi-omics, large biobank repositories, and multi-modality integration; facilitate collaboration with other research leaders within the SVA to develop novel statistical models and machine learning algorithms for analysing large genomic data sets, such as the UK Biobank and other modern genomic data sets of similar scale; contribute to bioinformatics and research dissemination workshops where required; and undertake administrative duties to manage the bioinformatics platform within the SVA. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for Research Fellows / Senior Research Fellows / Associate Professors who have: an outstanding track record as an academic track researcher or leading a research program a strong track record of initiating and leading major collaborative projects a strong background in the development of novel and applied statistical approaches to analyse large-scale datasets experience in implementing and scaling these methods using robust programming tools and practices for the University and the wider community a demonstrated track record of expertise in one of the following areas: large/ high-dimensional/ multi-omics data integration and mass spectrometry data and analysis; statistical genetics with large biobank data management and analysis.
