Job Summary
Support Worker provides in-person bereavement support for individuals, groups, and communities impacted by suicide. The role draws on non-judgmental, person-centred communication and relational capabilities. A lived experience of suicide bereavement is highly applicable. This position is based in the ACT and Murrumbidgee regions and supports community members who have been bereaved or impacted by suicide, as part of a team delivering community engagement, education, training, and events.
Responsibilities
* Provide in-person bereavement support to community members affected by suicide.
* Collaborate with the StandBy ACT & Murrumbidgee Coordinator, Outreach Worker and team to deliver consistent, professional support.
* Participate in community-based projects and support community engagement, education and training.
* Respond to critical incidents, including on-call crisis counselling and telephone crisis support.
* Demonstrate trauma-informed practice and self‐care management practices.
* Build positive relationships with community groups and service providers relevant to crisis support and bereavement.
Selection Criteria
* Experience working with people bereaved through suicide and/or severe traumatic events, grief and loss.
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* The ability to work effectively as part of a team to deliver a consistent, professional experience for clients.
* Experience and skills in critical response management including on-call crisis counselling, telephone crisis support, trauma response and self‐care management practices.
* Demonstrated knowledge and ability to build positive relationships with community groups and service providers relevant to crisis support and bereavement.
* Representation and outreach skills in supporting community activities.
Qualifications
* Minimum Diploma qualifications in a mental health, allied health or community services discipline (psychology, counselling, mental health, social work, or community development).
* Bereavement counselling or support experience.
Required Skills & Checks
* Current valid Driver's Licence with the ability to undertake travel for the role.
* Valid Working with Children Check.
* Valid Working with Vulnerable People Check.
* Right to work within Australia.
* Satisfactory National Police Records Check.
Benefits
* Salary ranging from $38.65 to $41.45 per hour (SCHADS Level 3B) plus 25% casual loading, superannuation and salary packaging.
* Salary packaging up to $15,899 per year.
