About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled
Senior Systems Engineer
to provide specialised support for critical infrastructure in the Australian Energy sector. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, security, and compliance of IT systems underpinning energy storage operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Hybrid Infrastructure Management:
Administer and maintain Windows Server environments across physical, virtual, and cloud (Azure) infrastructure, ensuring high availability for hosted third-party IoT applications.
* Virtualisation & Cloud:
Manage Proxmox hypervisors and Citrix environments, alongside provisioning and scaling Azure resources (VMs, Scale Sets, and hybrid connectivity).
* Remote Hardware Lifecycle:
Oversee remote server and storage hardware health; coordinate with third-party vendors ("Smart Hands") for physical maintenance, repairs, and component replacement.
* Identity & Access Management (IAM):
Architect and manage Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including user lifecycle, RBAC, PIM, Conditional Access policies, and MFA enforcement.
* Patching & Compliance
: Execute end-to-end patch management (OS, Firmware, and Hypervisor) adhering to strict Change Management protocols to minimise disruption to IoT services.
* Security & Policy:
Enforce security baselines using Azure Policy and standard hardening practices to ensure infrastructure integrity and compliance.
* Participate in rostered on-call in a rotating team cycle.
Operations & Incident Management
* Incident Resolution:
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex incidents across the hardware, OS, and firmware stack; provide Level 3 (L3) support for escalated infrastructure issues.
* Platform Integrity:
Own the stability of the underlying infrastructure (Hardware, Virtualisation, and OS) for integration and testing environments, ensuring a stable foundation for third-party IoT software (excluding direct application support).
* Data Protection:
Collaborate with Storage and Backup teams to validate data integrity, enforce redundancy standards, and ensure RPO/RTO compliance.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Experience:
7+ years in Systems Engineering, with at least 3 years in a critical infrastructure or high-availability environment.
* Core Systems:
Advanced proficiency in Windows Server administration (2016 through 2022) in a hybrid landscape.
* Cloud & Identity:
Demonstrated expertise in Hybrid Cloud administration, specifically Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and Azure IaaS management.
* Virtualisation:
Strong hands-on experience with Proxmox VE is essential, alongside familiarity with VMware and Citrix/VDI environments.
* Security Context:
Experience working within regulated security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, or ASD Essential Eight) is highly preferred.
* Remote Management:
Proven track record in Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM), including WSUS/SCCM patching, firmware lifecycle, and coordinating global "Smart Hands" vendor support.

* Core Systems:
Windows Server Engineering, Active Directory (AD DS), Group Policy (GPO).
* Cloud /Azure:
Entra ID (Identity), Azure VMs, Azure Arc, Azure Policy, Sentinel.
* Virtualisation:
Proxmox VE (Priority

, VMware vSphere, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
* Application:
PowerShell scripting (intermediate/advanced), Azure CLI, ARM Templates/Bicep.
* Monitoring:
Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, LogicMonitor (or equivalent).
* Storage/Backup:
Collaborate technically with specialist teams on Azure Backup & Site Recovery, Veeam, Commvault.
