We are seeking an experienced Optronics Engineer to be based in Sydney, NSW. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and development of next‑generation electro‑optical systems. This is a senior, hands‑on engineering position where you will lead system architecture definition, evaluate technology options, and drive the delivery of high‑performance optronic solutions.
The successful candidate will work across optics, image sensors, processing electronics, stabilisation mechanisms, and control algorithms, integrating these technologies into robust systems that meet demanding performance and environmental requirements. The role also involves close collaboration with specialist engineering teams from our parent company.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead electro‑optical design studies, including system architecture, technology trade‑offs, and performance evaluation
* Define high‑level system requirements and decompose them into detailed subsystem specifications
* Develop models and simulations to predict system performance in operational environments
* Assess and select suitable technologies across optics, sensors, electronics, and mechanical systems
* Collaborate with international engineering teams to incorporate specialist knowledge into local designs
* Prepare and lead design reviews, technical documentation, and compliance activities
* Support supplier selection, system integration, and laboratory validation activities
* Contribute to risk analysis, cost estimation, and planning for future production programs
Requirements
* An Engineering degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
* Minimum 5 years' experience in the design and development of optronic or electro‑optical systems (e.g. imaging payloads, stabilised gimbals, tracking systems, optical sensors)
* Demonstrated ability to lead technical design activities and manage system‑level integration challenges
* Strong analytical, modelling, and technical documentation skills
* Must be an Australian Citizen to apply.
* There is an ITAR compliance aspect to this role
