Emergency Preparedness and Response Director

$139,681 - $167,659 (EL 2) + up to 15.4% Super

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

The duties of an ASA EL 2 Emergency Preparedness and Response Director in the Australian Submarine Agency include the following:

- Accountable for providing leadership and direction to ensure a high-level of integration and consistency in the management of projects and products within the Australian Submarine Agency Capability Programs.
- Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting transparent performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
- Accountable for planning and managing allocated resources, setting program priorities, workflows, work area strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Accountable for the development, implementation and monitoring of program strategies, plans and risks, enabling delivery and reporting on the requirements and expectations of the management of the Australian Submarine Agency assets.
- Provide strategic direction and clearly articulate goals to achieve program, project and product objectives in accordance with the Australian Submarine Agency policies and procedures.
- Build and sustain productive working relationships between the Australian Submarine Agency groups, and industry to support the Australian Submarine Agency Capability Programs.
- Engage, negotiate and sustain working relationships on very complex issues to understand and influence the stakeholder requirements.
- Analyse and implement program management options that achieve optimal use of the Australian Submarine Agency assets.
- Drive change management strategies and provide clear direction to manage performance and meet program delivery schedules.

Your role as Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Director is to lead the strategic planning, coordination, capability management and execution of the emergency preparedness and response for the NPS Program. This includes the development of relevant policy, oversite of capability delivery and integration across the ASA, Defence, WOAG and AUKUS partners.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

- Lead the development, implementation and coordination of the NPS Emergency Preparedness and Response capability.
- Act as lead for State and Commonwealth agencies engagement with respect to nuclear emergency management matters.
- Support broader Nuclear Stewardship outreach activities and engagements.
- Develop Emergency Preparedness and Response policy and procedures, including associated agreements and arrangements.
- Support the development of licence applications for prospective license holders where appropriate.
- Support Trilateral Partners in the development of respective national emergency preparedness requirements.
- Undertake duties as directed by Assistant DG Nuclear Stewardship for the EL 2.
