About the Role
Our client is seeking a Principal Tax Advisor to provide senior technical leadership across their Tax Division. You'll play a critical role in maintaining exceptional quality standards, advising on complex client matters, and driving innovation in tax and accounting solutions.
Your Responsibilities
* Oversee quality control across all tax and accounting deliverables
* Conduct final review and sign-off on Financial Statements and Tax Returns
* Act as the escalation point for complex tax issues and ASIC matters
* Lead internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives
* Work directly with clients on complex engagements, identifying risks and opportunities
* Deliver high-quality, commercially focused tax advice
* Prepare detailed tax advisory documentation independently
* Support advanced areas such as business valuations and M&A (desirable)
* Collaborate with technology teams to develop innovative, AI-driven advisory tools
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Accounting (or equivalent)
* CA/CPA (or equivalent)
* Registered Tax Agent
* 10+ years' experience in public practice or accounting
Technical Expertise
You bring strong working knowledge across areas such as:
* IFRS and financial reporting
* Income tax, GST, FBT, payroll tax, and compliance frameworks
* Corporate structures, tax consolidation, and business structuring
* R&D Tax Incentives, CGT concessions, ESS, and innovation incentives
* Corporations Act and legal documentation (e.g. shareholder agreements)
Skills & Attributes
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality
* Ability to manage priorities, delegate effectively, and meet deadlines
* Commercially astute with advanced problem-solving capability
* Self-motivated, innovative, and driven by continuous improvement
* Confident using Xero, Xero Tax, XPM, Excel, and NowInfinity
