The Opportunity

Role Overview: As a Consultant within the Security, Trade & Industry (ST&I) team at Goal Group, your primary responsibility is to deliver high-quality export control, security, and industry-readiness projects for Australian industry clients. You will work under the broad direction and support of the General Manager ST&I and the wider ST&I team to execute these projects effectively, ensuring alignment with client needs and industry best practices.
In addition to project delivery, you may be required to support business development and stakeholder engagement activities, such as proposal development, client outreach, marketing, and event participation, when requested by the General Manager ST&I or CEO. Your role is to contribute to the growth and visibility of the ST&I team where appropriate.
This position requires a professional who is collaborative, self-motivated, and committed to delivering practical and value-driven outcomes. You will contribute to Goal Group's mission to strengthen Australia's sovereign industrial base through expert consulting, regulatory insight, and trusted partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery and Execution
While the primary capability required is Export Controls and strategic trade. As an ST&I consultant you will also be involved in delivering high-quality consulting services across a range of other ST&I focus areas, including:
* Export control and strategic trade compliance (e.g. DSGL, ITAR/EAR)
* Defence readiness and market entry preparation
* Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) readiness and uplift
* Developing internal compliance frameworks
* Training staff in export controls and areas such as DISP, sanctions, Australian Defence Industry Policy
* State and federal government projects relating to security, trade, and defence sectors
* Development of training materials or delivery of workshops in your subject matter area
Client Support and Engagement
Support project communication and reporting to clients, ensuring expectations are met and work is delivered professionally. Maintain strong working relationships and collaborate effectively with clients, under the guidance of the GM ST&I.
Contribution to Growth and Marketing
Assist with business development tasks such as preparing content for proposals, contributing to capability statements, or attending networking events—when requested by the GM ST&I or CEO.
Collaboration and Teamwork
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Goal Group, contributing to internal knowledge-sharing, continuous improvement, and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Tertiary diploma or degree in Law/Trade/Business or a related discipline.
* 3+ years of experience in export controls including Extensive experience in working with export-controlled technologies in the Defence sector.
* Experience in regulatory environments (highly desirable)
* Experience in consulting and advisory services (highly desirable)
* The desire and ability to be a team player, to support the growth of the ST&I team.
* Hold an NV1 Security Clearance ideally, or ability to upgrade from Baseline.
