As a senior member of the hospital executive and as part of the Department of Health (DoH) clinical governance structure, the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) will provide clinical leadership focussed on the interests of the Tasmanian community through the promotion of continuous improvement in local and state-wide whole‐of‐system clinical service provision. The EDMS will do this by: Providing specialist medical leadership to the organisation on all aspects of its operation, with a particular emphasis on strategic policy and direction for the medical workforce and the quality and safety of patient care through effective clinical governance. Working effectively within the local executive, with Clinical/Medical Directors and multi‐disciplinary management teams across the broader organisation.
We are a senior member of the hospital executive and part of the Hospitals North West clinical governance structure, providing clinical leadership focussed on the community interests through strong medical leadership, continuous improvement, and effective clinical governance. The EDMS will provide specialist medical leadership to the organisation on all aspects of its operation, with a particular emphasis on strategic policy and direction for the medical workforce and the quality and safety of patient care and patient flow.
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Department of Health – North West (DoH) has major sites located approximately 50km apart. The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe, close to Devonport. Both hospitals have busy emergency and general medical departments, with Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics primarily at the NWRH. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites, staffed by the NWRH team. A busy general surgical service is based at the NWRH with the MCH providing predominantly day surgery. A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the MCH.
There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services and an eight‐bed Intensive Care unit at the NWRH. On‐site support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.
The North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) operates as a branch of the Northern Tasmania Cancer Service and is linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. The NWCC provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania.
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022, with the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 contingent on meeting Level 1, 2 or 3 criteria as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
Desirable criteria:
* Holds or working towards Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA), Associate Fellowship of RACMA (AFRACMA), or equivalent postgraduate health management qualification(s)
Position features:
