Overview
Huon Aquaculture is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Compliance Officer to oversee marine environmental compliance across our marine farming operations in Tasmania. This role ensures Huon's marine activities meet regulatory obligations and sustainability targets while supporting innovation and continuous improvement in ocean-based aquaculture.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead environmental compliance for marine farming operations, including wildlife and collaborating with research partners.
* Overseeing compliance-based projects and providing expert advice in stocking planning, fallowing and biosecurity management.
* Maintain and enhance marine environmental management systems, databases, dashboards, and reporting tools.
* Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with EPA Tasmania, NRET, and marine farming license conditions.
* Manage the local and broadscale water quality, benthic impacts, and marine biodiversity in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
* Provide expert advice on marine environmental licensing, waste management, and pollution mitigation strategies.
* Prepare and submit compliance reports and documentation for regulators and internal stakeholders.
* Support Huon's sustainability goals, including reducing marine environmental impacts and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
* Represent Huon in community and government forums, building strong relationships with regulators, councils, and marine stakeholders.
* Mentor and train operational staff to build environmental awareness and compliance capability.
About You
You're a proactive and knowledgeable environmental professional with:
* Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in marine environmental compliance or auditing, preferably in aquaculture or marine industries.
* Strong understanding of marine ecosystems, aquaculture operations, and environmental legislation.
* Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and deliver practical compliance solutions.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report writing skills.
* High integrity, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Flexibility to travel across Huon's marine sites in Tasmania.
