The opportunity exists to step into a varied and hands-on role where you will build new skills as an Aviation and Maintenance Officer for the Shire of Exmouth on a full-time basis, supporting airport operations and assisting with general maintenance and upkeep – no aviation experience required, full training is provided.

Reporting to the Executive Manager Airport Operations, the Aviation and Maintenance Officer supports the day-to-day activities and operations of the Learmonth Airport (Heliport and Screening) and is responsible for the coordination of maintenance activities for both Learmonth and Exmouth Airports.

Aviation activities: You will be trained to successfully perform the aviation security functions, including, maintaining secure areas, advising airport users of correct security procedures, and screening passenger baggage and other activities as assigned. This part of the role requires the ability to comply with all policies and procedures in relation to Oil and Gas and Helicopter Operators. You will assist in coordinating and effectively work within the team to assist in the check-in process at the Heliport, passenger screening and facilitation, baggage and freight, briefings, lifejackets and hearing protection, loading procedures, parking, and refuelling activities in relation to all heliport activities. Airport screening activities require compliance with the Transport Security Program (TSP), Aviation Transport Security Act (ATSA), Aviation Transport Security Regulations (ASTR), Aviation Screening Notice (ASN), and associated regulations.

Maintenance activities: Under the direction of the Executive Manager Airport Operations, you will regularly perform and report on maintenance issues both landside and airside at the Learmonth Airport and Exmouth Aerodrome. The maintenance duties performed include regularly undertaking airside grounds maintenance at both facilities, completing routine maintenance checks of buildings, plant and equipment, maintaining a record of maintenance activities, ensuring the integrity of surfaces, footpaths, and kerbs, liaising with local service providers and other Shire departments, carrying out minor maintenance and organising servicing and mechanical maintenance, of plant and equipment.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for a skilled and safety-conscious individual with general ground maintenance experience to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of airport facilities. You will obtain or have the ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC), Cert II in Aviation Transport Protection, qualification in Dangerous Goods (DG) Awareness, and recertification as required for any qualifications held. You will be computer literate with experience in the use of the Microsoft suite of products, and an understanding of business systems (the Shire uses Synergy).

What we offer: This position is classified as a Level 5 under the Shire of Exmouth Enterprise Agreement 2017 (currently being negotiated), and comes with the following remuneration benefits;

* base salary of $69,772 per annum – some overtime available
* Housing allowance of $5,000 per annum
* Location allowance of $1,955 per annum
* Up to 22% superannuation (includes co-contribution by you)
* 5-weeks of annual leave
* Eligibility for long service leave after 7 years of service (conditions apply), uniform allowance, employee assistance program and other well-being services
