The Role An exciting opportunity exists within our Infrastructure Services directorate for a Water & Sewerage Treatment Operations Trainee. Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to undertake a Traineeship in Water and Sewerage Treatment Operations. This traineeship qualification has a nominal duration period of 24-months. Continued employment beyond the 24-month traineeship period is not guaranteed. In the role of Water and Sewerage Treatment Operations Trainee, you will undertake tasks such as general labouring duties on Council’s maintenance and construction works for water and sewerage activities. Funding for this position has been provided to Council through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative – First Start Program. The program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged Queensland job seekers with opportunities to gain a nationally recognised qualification and 24 months on the job experience. To be eligible, you must be: Aged 15 years or older and no longer at school; and Able to meet citizen, residency and visa requirements to undertake an apprenticeship. In addition to the above, to be eligible you must be able to identify with at least one of the following: A young person (aged 15-24 years), including those in and transitioned from out of home care; A long-term unemployed job seeker; A mature age job seeker (aged 45 years or older); An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person; A migrant or refugee from a culturally and linguistically diverse background; A person with a disability; A displaced worker (retrenched or redundant); A woman re-entering the workforce; A veteran, ex-ADF personnel or their family member. Essential Basic literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills sufficient to complete a relevant Certificate III in Water and Sewerage Treatment Operations. Sound ability to proactively study and complete assessments within set timeframes. Sound ability to work in a team environment (work, school or extra-curricular activity) and demonstrate sound communication skills. Sound ability to learn and develop new skills. Sound ability to prioritise and manage individual workload to meet deadlines. Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction (White Card) or the ability to obtain. Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces. Desirable C Class Manual Drivers Licence.
