We are looking for a motivated and community‐mindful individual to join our Environmental Health team as an Aboriginal Cadet Environmental Health Officer. This role provides hands‐on experience and the chance to develop into a qualified Environmental Health Officer while studying and earning a wage. It offers a unique opportunity to work on Country, support community wellbeing, and grow professionally with strong guidance from an experienced team.
Responsibilities
* Assisting with inspections of food businesses, public swimming pools and spas, cooling towers, caravan parks and skin penetration premises (e.g., beauty salons and tattoo studios).
* Supporting the team on development applications and environmental assessments.
* Responding to community requests about air, noise, water, contaminated land and waste issues.
* Participating in health promotion activities and local community events.
* Maintaining accurate records and writing basic reports.
* Learning public health and environmental laws.
* Delivering excellent customer service.
Qualifications
* No previous experience is required.
* Enthusiastic, community‐mindful, good communicator, reliable team player, organised, comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
* Eligible for and committed to completing a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) at Western Sydney University over a 6‐year period.
Salary
The salary ranges from approximately $31,288 to $53,196 per annum, following the Local Government (State) Award. Salary will be based on age, qualifications and previous experience. Superannuation (12 %) is additional.
Location
Based at the Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya (2 Biripi Way, Taree). Other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region may also be required.
Tenure
* 6‐year fixed term
* Full‐time 35 hours per week
