About Our Units

* Adult ICU - A large, high-acuity 30-bed Level 6 unit, serving as the main referral centre for critically ill patients across Northern NSW.
* Paediatric ICU - A dedicated 7-bed tertiary unit caring for critically ill children with a range of medical and surgical conditions. PICU also supports ward patients, the ED, and regional transport via NETS and the Retrieval Service.


Where You'll Be Working


John Hunter Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a Level 6 referral centre for critically ill patients in the Hunter New England, Mid North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health Districts. It is the default centre for Trauma, Neurosurgery, Stroke, Vascular, Cardiothoracic, ECMO and major General Surgery, as well as Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology. John Hunter Hospital also co-operatively services other Level 5 Intensive Care services in the Hunter New England region.

Based just 10km from Newcastle's beaches and a short drive to the Hunter Valley wine country, you'll enjoy the perfect mix of career and lifestyle. The ongoing redevelopment makes this site one of NSW's most advanced health precincts.


You Are

* Experienced in Adult or Paediatric Intensive Care
* A critical thinker with strong clinical judgement
* Compassionate and calm under pressure
* A team player who communicates clearly and effectively
* Emotionally resilient and well-organised
* Ready to work a rotating 24/7 roster, including nights and weekends


Responsibilities

* Provide patient care in a high-acuity ICU/PICU setting as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Work with specialties including Trauma, ECMO, Neuroscience, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Stroke, and Retrieval Services.
* Collaborate with Clinical leaders and a Nurse Unit Manager who is available 24/7 for guidance.
* Participate in a rotating roster to cover 24/7 shifts, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

* Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
