Overview
Infrastructure Delivery (ID) is responsible for the delivery of the City and Environment Directorate (CED) Capital Works program on behalf of Roads ACT, City Presentation, ACT NOWaste, Transport Canberra, Libraries ACT, Sports and Recreation and other business areas within the Directorate. We deliver infrastructure and public spaces that respond to community needs, seeking creative and innovative solutions to support effective delivery. This includes (but not limited to) public realm improvements, footpaths, roads, parks, bridges, cycle-lanes, shared paths, street lighting, public transport infrastructure, stormwater infrastructure, shopping centre upgrades, urban renewal, landfill cells, car park improvements, playgrounds and sportsground infrastructure.
Role
Infrastructure Delivery is seeking an experienced Senior Director to fill a temporary vacancy for six months. The Senior Director provides professional, technical, strategic and policy advice to the industry, asset managers, CED executive, the public and relevant Ministers. The position will lead and effectively manage the project team delivering the infrastructure projects for Canberra, with a focus on urban and landscape design. This position requires a leader with a strong, considered and engaging people focus to successfully deliver and drive a culture of respect and a desire to achieve customer service excellence. The ideal candidate will possess an innate ability to draw on the right skills in a contextually and environmentally appropriate manner, align team performance and develop capacity to achieve organisational objectives. Model commitment to continual learning, encourage ongoing development, and develop, engage and place the right people to the right roles. The role reports to the Executive Branch Manager, Infrastructure Delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the project team delivering infrastructure projects for Canberra, with a focus on urban and landscape design.
- Provide professional, technical, strategic and policy advice to the industry, asset managers, CED executive, the public and relevant Ministers.
- Foster a culture of respect and strive for customer service excellence in delivery.
- Develop and align team performance, capacity, and ongoing learning to achieve organisational objectives.
- Engage and place the right people in the right roles to support programme delivery.
Eligibility/Requirements
Positions classified as an Infrastructure Manager/Specialist require the occupant to hold recognised qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following fields:
- Architecture or Landscape Architecture or Urban planning/design – a three-year degree or higher qualification accredited by an Australian authority, and a minimum of ten years relevant experience in Architecture or related field; or
- Engineering – a four-year degree or higher qualification accredited by Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia, and a minimum of ten years relevant experience in Engineering; or
- Project Management – either:
- a diploma in Project Management with a minimum of ten years relevant experience, or
- certification by a skilled body (e.g., AIPM CPPD or CPPE) plus a relevant degree and ten years relevant experience, or
- at least ten years relevant experience in project management as described in the work levels.
Notes
This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of six months and is open to ACT Government officers and employees only. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
