About the role
Reporting to the Manager Corporate Affairs within the Office of the CEO, this newly created key leadership position oversees a specialist Marketing and Communications team of fourteen. The team provides strategic internal and external communications and marketing advice to the Executive, Councillors, and across the organisation.
You will act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leaders, building strong organisational networks and translating complex operational and strategic priorities into clear, accessible, and engaging communications approaches that effectively reach community, media, and internal audiences.
As part of the Marketing portfolio, you will also lead Council's tourism function, supporting the promotion of Wyndham as a destination of choice and strengthening place branding and visitor engagement outcomes.
Given the nature of this senior role and its direct interface with Executive leadership, Councillors, media, and the community, regular office attendance is required, with some capacity for limited flexible working arrangements.
Key priorities
* Developing a Council-endorsed, data-informed Marketing and Communications Strategy aligned with organisational priorities and community outcomes
* Establishing and maintaining a live issue register to support proactive and responsive communications management
* Developing and maintaining a 12-month media and communications calendar to ensure coordinated, strategic engagement across channels and stakeholders
What you will bring
* Demonstrated experience dealing with complex and high-profile issues
* Strong understanding of the media landscape with highly developed skills in dealing with traditional and digital media
* Ability to lead and motivate a team
* High degree of political awareness and sensitivity and an ability to understand the goals and context of the organisation.
* A detailed understanding of Marketing principles and how they are applied
