Where You'll Be Working

You will be based at the Maitland Hospital in a modern, purpose-built mental health unit designed to support high-quality, contemporary care. The Maitland Mental Health Unit provides a supportive and collaborative environment where multidisciplinary professionals work together to deliver assessment, stabilisation, treatment planning and safe transition back to community supports. The team is committed to evidence-based practice, recovery-oriented care and maintaining dignity and respect for every patient.

About the Role

This 0.5 FTE Psychologist position offers the opportunity to play a meaningful role within the inpatient multidisciplinary team.

In this role, you will provide psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for patients admitted to the unit. You will work closely with psychiatrists, nurses and allied health professionals to support treatment planning and contribute valuable psychological perspectives to patient care.

Your day-to-day work will include:

* Conducting psychological assessments and developing clinical formulations
* Delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions
* Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and treatment planning
* Completing clinical documentation and risk assessments
* Liaising with families and community services to support safe discharge planning

This role offers strong clinical variety and the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the recovery journey of people experiencing acute mental health challenges.

About You

We are looking for a psychologist who brings strong clinical skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to patient care.

You will have experience in psychological assessment and intervention, confidence in risk assessment, and an understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice. You will also value teamwork and actively contribute to treatment planning and service development.

Essential Requirements

* Current registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
* Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of at least two years full-time duration (or recognised equivalent), as listed on the Psychology Board of Australia website

You will receive a comprehensive orientation to the Maitland Mental Health Unit, including introductions to the team, service processes and clinical environment.

Ongoing support includes:

* Regular clinical supervision
