Purpose of Role
Tasmania is entering into a pivotal period for the future of its oceans, with growing public focus on marine health, coastal resilience and the long-term stewardship of the state's unique marine environment. Environment Tasmania is seeking a passionate and community-minded individual to join our team and support this important work.
The role will work closely with Tasmania's vibrant coastal communities and alongside the organisation's Senior Marine Campaigner to help advance marine conservation and community engagement initiatives across the state. This role will connect with a broad range of stakeholders and build valuable relationships for the marine campaign. This position will also strengthen the marine team by providing technical and operational support.

It is working together with community groups to build a resilient state with a thriving environment, empowered communities and a cohesive environmental movement.
Environment Tasmania is working on the most important issues threatening Tasmania's unique natural environment and is increasingly providing a local voice at the national level on behalf of many Tasmanian environment groups.
Primary Tasks
* Develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders and community members to build broad support behind the marine campaign's objectives.
* Provide strategic support to our Senior Marine Campaigner to ensure our marine campaign is operating according to the latest marine policies, research and science.
* Grow and maintain contact lists and relevant databases, as well as other administrative tasks to ensure the marine campaign is operating efficiently.
* Work with our Senior Marine Campaigner and Communications Manager to draft press releases, briefing documents and other communication materials.
* As well as any other relevant duties as required by Environment Tasmania.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
* A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge, of the threats facing Tasmania's marine environments.
* Proven experience of building relationships with stakeholders
* Advanced communication skills with a proven ability to connect and motivate people.
* Strong IT skills, data entry and a proficiency in Google Workspace.
* Strategic, conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to demonstrate sound judgement, develop innovative solutions and understand the political, social and environmental context in which Environment Tasmania operates.
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, and be an effective member of a small team.
Desirable:
* Previous experience working in a similar role and/or experience working on a relevant environmental or community-led project.
* A strong understanding of marine science, communications and/or policy.
* An understanding of state/federal politics and key decision-makers.
Level of Responsibility and Supervision
Under broad direction from the CEO and ET's Board the Healthy Oceans Coordinator is expected to work autonomously, within a small team of campaigners, with regular check-ins with our Senior Marine Campaigner.
Employment Terms
* Fixed term for 12 months 0.6 full-time equivalent.
* Location: Launceston or Hobart Offices.
* A probation period of two months from commencement date.
* Hourly rate: $38-$42 (depending on experience).
