About the Role
Located at Lenah Valley in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs and reporting to the Leader Large Regulated Investment, this role supports the evolution of renewable energy in Tasmania by focussing on large transmission projects across the State. The Large Regulated Investment Team is responsible for progressing TasNetworks’ major projects through the economic assessment process, specifically the Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission and the Contingent Project Application process. These are critical steps in delivering shared transmission infrastructure while ensuring that TasNetworks is only making investments that are in the long‑term interests of our customers. The Regulated Investment Specialist will play a key part in supporting and coordinating projects identified as critical to Tasmania’s and Australia’s transition to renewable energy.
As a Specialist you will work with internal and external stakeholders to progress cost‑benefit assessments for TasNetworks’ major projects, and you may be required to justify this expenditure to regulatory bodies. You will support external engagement activities and offer accurate, high-quality advice to various internal stakeholders, including TasNetworks’ Executive and Board members. If you have relevant experience that’s a huge bonus; if you have transferable skills in similar project/policy roles and learn quickly, we can teach you the rest.
About You
Are you an expert on delivering projects with a strong policy focus? Do you learn new concepts quickly? We are seeking a candidate who can progress TasNetworks’ major projects through the economic assessment process outlined in the National Electricity Rules and associated Guidelines. You will lead TasNetworks’ advocacy for changes to the national and Tasmanian electricity regulatory framework to ensure timely and efficient delivery of major transmission projects.
You will have experience with research and analysis of complex issues, delivering projects against key milestones and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will hold tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Economics or Engineering, coupled with demonstrated experience. Ideally you will bring a breadth of economic and regulation knowledge and experience in the energy or other utilities industries; candidates with solid experience across policy and projects could be suitable.
