The role
Project Controller
Permanent, full‐time position; preferred location: Canberra, with other locations possible in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane or Sydney.
Opportunity
The Project Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful planning, execution, and monitoring of large and complex projects within the assigned operating unit. They establish and maintain project control systems—including cost, schedule and risk management—to support high‐quality project delivery. The role requires a highly analytical and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and strong communication skills across cross‐functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project budgets.
- Track project expenditures and identify variances.
- Prepare cost reports and forecasts, recommending corrective actions.
- Manage workforce plans and timesheet administration, including SAP entry.
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes; prepare monthly accruals.
- Manage client monthly financial reporting and project status reports.
- Manage WBS elements, reporting on revenue and cost variations.
- Assist in bid estimation and pricing schedule processes for contract changes.
- Ensure all project documents are organised and accessible; maintain version control.
- Support project audits.
- Prepare regular project status reports and analyze performance data.
- Assist in the preparation of project change orders and claims.
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to gather data and ensure control accuracy.
- Communicate control issues and recommendations effectively.
- Stay up‐to‐date with best practices in project controls and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or certification in a related field (desirable).
- Minimum 5 years of project accounting / finance business partner experience.
- Proven control account management experience, monitoring actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Proven experience with EACs and revenue recognition in line with percent complete.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Well‐developed communication and time‐management skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, PowerBI and Defence industry experience highly regarded.
- AGSVA security clearance at minimum Baseline.
