Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
Are you an experienced field leader looking for a challenging and rewarding role? Biosecurity Queensland is seeking a Senior Field Supervisor to lead teams in remote and rugged environments as part of the National Tropical Weeds Eradication Program. This role is perfect for someone passionate about environmental conservation, teamwork, and biosecurity.
As a Senior Biosecurity field team supervisor, you will:
• Lead field teams to deliver surveillance and treatment to deliver project outcomes specified in the National Response Plan.
• Follow and model workplace, health and safety procedures and practices. Supervise the team to ensure adherence to departmental health, safety and wellbeing requirements. This includes daily safety reporting requirements.
• Promote effective public relations for Biosecurity Queensland by answering general questions from the public regarding your specific Biosecurity program/project. This will require entry under the Biosecurity Programs.
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess a:
• Current open manual “C” (car) class driver's license is required.
• Remote First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• ACDC: Agriculture Chemicals Licence (or willingness to obtain)
• This role requires the ability to Walk across a variety of terrain to identify, and hand remove weeds, mostly within dense tropical rainforest on steep, rocky and often slippery slopes. This includes walking considerable distances with elevation gains and significant obstacles (rainforest hazards). Biosecurity Field teams supervisors will be exposed to the various outdoor temperature ranges and climatic conditions experienced in tropical north Queensland.
