About the Opportunity
Bowral Maternity Unit provides midwifery‑led care to low‑risk women in the Wingecarribee and Wollondilly region. As a midwife you will deliver women‑centred care throughout pregnancy and motherhood, including birth, post‑natal care and newborn support. The Unit currently operates two Midwifery Antenatal and Postnatal Services (MAPS) that offer continuity of care. Future plans include developing a Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) to further enhance service delivery.
Bowral & District Hospital is part of the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). It is a rural community hospital with strong links to tertiary facilities at Campbelltown and Liverpool.
What You’ll Be Doing
The midwife is a responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting births autonomously within your scope of practice.
- Providing comprehensive care for the newborn and infant.
- Rotating through clinical areas such as the Birthing Unit, Post‑Antenatal Ward, Special Care Nursery and Antenatal Clinic.
You will also act as an effective role model, upholding NSW Health core values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
How To Apply
To be considered for this position please address the following questions in your application:
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated high‑level communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in situations where women decline care outside clinical guidelines. Provide examples of respectful, woman‑centred communication that supports informed decision‑making.
- Demonstrate ability to provide comprehensive midwifery care across the full continuum, in line with the scope of practice for a midwifery‑led model of care. Describe how you maintain competence and continuity in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, and adapt your practice to meet the changing needs of women and families.
