Fluence is seeking a Senior Communications Manager to lead media relations, crisis communications, and thought leadership activities in Australia and support emerging Asia‐Pacific markets. This role will help strengthen Fluence's brand, support our reputation as a trusted energy storage partner, and help position the company as a leading voice on the future of the grid.
The Senior Communications Manager will be part of the global Corporate Communications team and will report to Fluence's Director of External Communications. In this highly cross‐functional role, you will partner closely with market‐level leadership, sales, marketing, policy, and other teams to develop and execute communications strategies that support business growth, manage issues, and build trust with customers, policymakers, and media.
You will oversee day‐to‐day media relations and thought leadership efforts for Australia and key emerging Asia‐Pacific markets, and you will assist with market‐level crisis and issues communications planning and response. This is a hands‐on role that combines strategic thinking with strong execution skills, particularly in media engagement, content development, and proactive storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead media relations across Australia and emerging APAC markets, including story prioritization, journalist engagement, agency management, and proactive pitching aligned with Fluence's global narrative.
* Develop and execute market‐specific communications plans that support global strategies, particularly in energy storage, renewables integration, grid modernization, and data center growth.
* Create and localize high‐quality external content such as press releases, statements, op‐eds, bylines, talking points, Q&As, and briefing materials.
* Drive market‐level thought leadership by shaping messaging, securing and managing speaking opportunities, and developing supporting content.
* Develop and publish engaging social media content for local markets, ensuring alignment with brand voice, campaign objectives, and key communications initiatives.
* Plan and execute press conferences and provide communications support for local events, including ribbon cuttings, public policy briefings, and other stakeholder engagements.
* Support crisis and issues communications across Australia and APAC, including issue monitoring, drafting holding statements and Q&As, and coordinating with global communications during incident response.
* Provide strategic counsel to internal stakeholders and collaborate with marketing and sales to ensure communications reinforce messaging, reputation, pipeline development, commercial milestones, and local amplification of global announcements.
* Assist with market‐level internal communications initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* 6–10 years' experience in external communications, public relations, or corporate communications, with strong expertise in media relations and thought leadership, ideally within energy, infrastructure, technology, or related sectors.
* Established media relationships in Australia, particularly with energy, business, technology, and policy reporters; experience across broader APAC markets strongly preferred.
* Proven ability to manage local agencies, including overseeing scope of work, budgets, deliverables, and performance.
* Energy sector expertise strongly preferred, especially in renewables, grid infrastructure, utilities, or energy storage; familiarity with energy policy and regulatory debates is a plus.
* Bachelor's degree required, preferably in communications, PR, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or a related field.
* Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, compelling narratives for business, policy, and general audiences, supported by strong writing, editing, and tone adaptation skills.
* Experience leading or supporting crisis and issues communications, including drafting holding statements, Q&As, and internal guidance under time pressure.
* Ability to thrive in a global, matrixed environment, collaborating cross‐functionally and across time zones; strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, proficiency in MS Office and media tools, familiarity with digital/social channels, a growth mindset, and fluency in English (additional APAC language such as Mandarin or Japanese a strong plus).
* Be willing and able to travel regionally / overseas occasionally.
