NHS Dumfries & Galloway's Primary Care Mental Health Service is pleased to be offering the opportunity for recruitment of Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse hours on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within Community Mental Health and gain experience working in a primary care setting. The post will cover the existing service and provide support for a continuous service when existing staff are on leave. It is an exciting opportunity to join a well established team and be able to contribute to service development and transformation.
The post holder will be aligned to Wigtownshire Community Mental Health, but will be based within The Waverly GP Practice supporting Primary Care in the provision of early assessment and interventions for people with mild-moderate mental health issues.
Duties will include supporting GP practices with triage, completion of mental health assessments, delivery of brief therapeutic interventions and close partnership working with Primary Care, Home teams, Secondary Care Mental Health Services and Third Sector Agencies.
Post holders will work in partnership with patients/carers and will be expected to have good knowledge of local mental health support services. These posts require confident candidates who can work in a fast paced environment and be able to manage time effectively. Flexibility, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills are essential.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
