Job Overview
The Design Lead is responsible for guiding technical teams to develop and deliver design solutions for water treatment and facilities projects, including upgrades and renewals of reservoirs, pump stations and related water and wastewater assets.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead project technical teams to deliver design solutions on time and within budget.
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs from engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance to ensure an integrated design solution.
* Manage design delivery in accordance with the project scope and apply change management at the project level.
* Ensure technical outputs conform to project scope, safety standards and appropriate quality, confirmed by independent reviews.
* Manage scope changes through established systems and processes.
* Deliver designs to required quality standards using diverse teams and work within a matrix organisational structure.
* Exercise independent judgement and address complex issues, acting as an internal subject matter expert with advanced practical and theoretical knowledge.
* Collaborate with clients and key stakeholders during development of technical solutions and present outcomes during handovers and project closeout.
* Plan technical activities, confirm delivery methodology, coordinate technical resources, and track progress.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering field such as mechanical or electrical engineering.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status.
* A minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering consultancy environment.
* Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of water and wastewater assets and the delivery environment.
* Strong problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes.
* Solid understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects.
* Excellent report writing skills with the ability to tell a compelling story.
* Proficiency with Project Management Tools such as MS Project and Power BI.
