Job Title: Financial Accountant
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team. As Council's Financial Accountant for Development and Infrastructure Agreements, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the correct recognition of revenue, assets, liabilities, and expenses linked to trunk infrastructure projects.
Main Responsibilities:
* Governance and Compliance: Strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability across infrastructure agreements.
* Financial Recognition: Ensure accurate financial recognition of infrastructure charges, offsets, assets, and liabilities.
* Expert Advice: Provide expert financial advice during infrastructure agreement negotiations.
* Collaboration: Collaborate with Development, Engineering, and Asset Management teams to ensure accurate asset classification and valuation.
* Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvement of accounting processes, tools, and systems.
* Long-term Planning: Support Council's long-term financial planning by aligning financial forecasts with infrastructure commitments.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor Degree or above) in accounting or business studies and/or demonstrated practical experience commensurate with the position requirements.
* Experience in complex financial accounting and reporting, ideally in government or infrastructure sectors.
* Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards relevant to asset recognition and revenue recognition.
* Strong understanding of the Planning Act 2016, Local Government Act 2009, and infrastructure charge frameworks.
* Ability to develop financial systems, registers, and processes that improve transparency and accountability.
* High-level analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy to financial transactions.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advise senior stakeholders.
* Effective time management skills, including but not limited to, working independently, setting priorities, setting and meeting deadlines, and organizing own workloads.
* Class C Driver's license.
