Marketing and Audience Development Manager

Title: Marketing and Audience Development Manager

Reports to: CEO and Executive Producer

Direct Reports: None

Works closely with: Artistic Director, Producer, Publicists

Employment: Full-time (38 hrs/week)

Location: Sydney, NSW (Remote or flexible-working arrangements will be considered)

Salary Range: $70,000 - $84,000 per annum (plus 12% superannuation)

You are an experienced arts marketing and audience development professional with a proven record in shaping strategy, achieving targets and growing audiences. Creative, collaborative and responsive, you thrive in a close team, balance big‑picture thinking with hands‑on delivery, and approach challenges with initiative and solutions. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Marketing and Audience Development Manager leads the strategic direction, delivery and evaluation of Omega Ensemble's marketing, communications and audience development priorities.

This role carries primary responsibility for driving audience growth, maximising ticket sales and achieving revenue‑generation targets across tours, projects and programmes.

The role is expected to be highly engaged and involved with the ensemble's projects. As such, some evening and weekend work at performances or events is required.

Remote and flexible working arrangements may be available for suitable candidates.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Marketing and Communications

* Develop, implement and evaluate marketing and communications strategies aligned with organisational goals and audience growth.
* Strengthen and steward a bold, consistent Omega Ensemble brand across all channels.
* Plan and optimise multi‑channel campaigns to drive ticket sales, engagement and revenue.
* Craft clear, compelling messaging for campaigns, media, eDMs and social content.
* Manage relationships with media, publicists, designers and agencies for cohesive delivery.
* Oversee marketing budgets, forecasting spend and maximising return on investment.
* Use data and ticketing insights to measure performance and identify growth opportunities.
* Maintain the website with current, engaging and conversion‑focused content.
* Grow social media presence through creative, audience‑focused content.
* Meet marketing deadlines and maintain clear workflows, securing approvals as required.


Content Production

* Develop content strategies that support programming, audience growth and organisational goals.
* Lead creation of marketing collateral with high creative quality and brand consistency.
* Produce and commission multimedia content that tells our story and showcases artists.
* Brief and manage creative suppliers to deliver on time, on brand and to a high standard.
* Build strong relationships with partners to ensure content is contemporary and diverse.
* Manage a strategic content calendar for consistent, timely communication.
* Oversee archiving and asset management to keep media organised and accessible.


CRM and Ticketing

* Oversee ticketing and CRM workflows to drive revenue and audience retention.
* Work with venues and partners to ensure smooth operations, accurate reporting and strong customer experience.
* Produce reports on sales, audience behaviour and campaign performance to guide decisions.
* Maintain data integrity through regular hygiene, audits and system updates.
* Share audience insights across teams to inform programming and strategy.
* Refine customer touchpoints to ensure an inclusive and positive audience experience.


Audience Development and Community Engagement

* Develop strategies to broaden, diversify and deepen audiences with a focus on growth, access and long‑term engagement.
* Deliver audience‑centred initiatives that build loyalty, attract first‑time attendees and encourage repeat visits.
* Conduct research to inform programming, pricing, marketing and audience experience improvements.
* Build partnerships with venues, festivals and organisations to enable joint activity and shared outcomes.
* Create community engagement opportunities that connect with diverse groups, schools, youth and regional audiences.
* Embed accessibility and inclusive practice across all marketing and audience touchpoints.
* Manage loyalty programs and retention initiatives, adapting to sales trends and audience behaviour.
* Measure and evaluate audience initiatives to refine and strengthen future engagement.
* Support donor and stakeholder engagement through tailored communications and events.


Leadership and Sector Development

* Stay across sector trends and innovations, applying insights to strengthen impact.
* Build networks with industry peers and partners to elevate the organisation and create opportunities.
* Represent Omega Ensemble professionally at performances, events and industry forums.
* Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO (and Board when invited) to support decision‑making.
* Contribute creative, forward‑thinking ideas that enhance sustainability and sector leadership.


SELECTION CRITERIA

* Minimum 5 years' experience in arts, events or cultural marketing and audience development.
* Tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, arts management or equivalent experience.
* Proven success delivering campaigns that grow audiences and box office revenue.
* Strong understanding of the Australian performing arts sector and audience trends.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver creative, data‑driven marketing strategies.
* Experience with ticketing/CRM systems and analytics to inform decisions.
* Strong digital marketing skills across SEO, social, paid media, analytics and websites.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong storytelling ability.
* Experience managing budgets, suppliers and end‑to‑end campaigns.
* Knowledge of classical and contemporary music.
* Experience with CRM systems (e.g. Tessitura, Salesforce, HubSpot).
* Proficiency with email marketing platforms.
* Skills in design and content tools (Adobe, Canva, Premiere Pro, CapCut).
* Experience working with First Nations and culturally diverse communities.
* Understanding of accessibility and inclusive communication.
* Ability to read music or familiarity with musical terminology.
* Understanding of philanthropy and fundraising.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

* Working Hours: Usual office hours are 9:00am–5:00pm Monday–Friday, with some evening and weekend work during performances. Flexible arrangements and Time‑in‑Lieu apply.
* Leave: Four weeks (20 days) annual leave and ten days personal/carer's leave.
* Working arrangements: Based in a shared office with Musica Viva Australia, with work across office, rehearsal and performance venues, some interstate travel, and optional remote work.
* Position Scope: Responsibilities may evolve over time, and as part of a small team, staff may support broader organisational needs.
