Senior Electronics Engineer(Sustainment and R&D)
Location: Sydney, NSW
Salary: $140,000 - 170,000 + Super + Bonus
Overview
This role sits within a specialist engineering team focused on electronic products for industrial and hazardous area applications. The primary focus is sustaining and supporting an established product range, with involvement in new design work where required. You will work across the full product lifecycle, from production and procurement support through to field application and enhancement of existing designs.
Reports to the Engineering Manager. A Bachelor of Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Systems Engineering is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of electronic product design and lifecycle support experience.
Responsibilities
* Primary focus on sustaining and supporting existing electronic products across production, procurement, and application engineering activities.
* Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues across development, production, and field applications.
* Modify and customise existing designs to meet customer-specific and project requirements.
* Analyse existing products to improve reliability, manufacturability, performance, and lifecycle support.
* Produce and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, PCB files, drawings, manuals, and work instructions.
* Work closely with production and procurement teams to ensure smooth product delivery and support.
* Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electronics and meet system requirements.
* Ensure all design modifications comply with relevant legislation and existing product certifications.
* Contribute to new product and circuit design based on specifications where required.
Technical skills
* Proficient in Altium Designer; experience with Altium 365 is an advantage.
* Strong experience in schematic design for both analog and digital circuits.
* Proven capability in multi-layer PCB design and layout, including high pin-count BGAs such as FPGAs, and high-speed design including PCIe, DDR RAM, and 8+ layer PCBs.
* Strong understanding of battery systems including smart batteries and Li-ion and Ni-Cd chemistries.
Communication interfaces and networking
* Gbps Ethernet, RGMII, MDIO
Embedded hardware
* Microcontrollers including PIC, ARM, and STM32
* Analog and digital sensor integration such as pressure and temperature
* Exposure to wireless technologies including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee.
* Familiarity with IEC/EN 60079 series standards for hazardous area and intrinsic safety applications.
* Experience with gas sensing technologies such as methane detection.
* Experience with industrial displays and thermal or visible spectrum cameras.
* FPGA development experience using Intel/Altera platforms, with Verilog preferred.
