Speck of Dust — Contract Role (Growth Pathway)
Speck of Dust is a Sydney-based video production company specialising in impact storytelling for purpose-driven organisations. We work with clients across community, education, health, sport and the NFP sector, creating documentary-style content that connects audiences to real human stories.
We also deliver high-volume event and matchday content for major sporting organisations through an ongoing production partnership.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Production Coordinator or Producer to join as a contractor, working alongside the founder to manage delivery, build systems, and free up capacity for business growth.
This isn't a back-office support role. You'll be client-facing from day one, working directly with external teams on complex, fast-moving projects. You'll also help shape how the business operates during quieter periods, building the systems and processes that make busy periods sustainable.
The role is designed to grow. As the business develops, so does the scope of what you'll take on.
What the Role Involves
During peak production periods (particularly Sept–Dec):
* Own the production schedule across multiple concurrent projects
* Manage the shared tracking docs and keep all stakeholders aligned
* Communicate directly with client teams on timelines, priorities and delivery
* Flag delays and priority shifts before they become problems
* Keep the founder focused on creative direction and client relationships
During pre-production and quieter periods:
* Coordinate logistics for shoots: locations, talent, crew, equipment
* Support pre-production planning and client briefings
* Build and refine internal systems for scheduling, task management and communication
* Contribute to business development support as capacity allows
* Take on greater ownership of production delivery
* Potentially manage editors or freelance crew
* Grow into a senior production role as the business scales
Who We're Looking For
* Experience in video production coordination, producing, or a similar role
* Confident communicating directly with clients and external teams
* Highly organised, especially under pressure with competing priorities
* Comfortable working across tools like Google Docs, Sheets, and chat platforms
* Self-directed and proactive — you don't wait to be told what needs doing
* Genuine interest in purpose-driven work and documentary-style storytelling
* Ideally Sydney based
Editing skills are a bonus but not essential. What matters more is operational clarity and the ability to keep complex projects on track.
Structure
This is a contract role with flexible hours, scaling up during busy periods. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with the business, not just fill a gap.
Initial focus: onboarding before the Sept–Dec peak period, with lighter engagement through winter to build systems and get across how we work.
