Job description

John Moriarty Football’s (JMF) groundbreaking football skills program is transforming the lives of vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people living in remote and regional Australia.

Are you a natural leader with a passion for community and creating positive change?

We are looking for an experienced people manager who believes in the power of community-led programs to transform lives. You bring experience working with young people, leading teams, and delivering impactful programs. Experience in sport or community development is valuable, but your ability to inspire, connect, and lead is what matters most.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in delivering the John Moriarty Football program in Dubbo, NSW. In this role, you will lead and support a team of Community Coaches to deliver a high-quality health, wellbeing, and youth development program across schools and the wider community.

You are a strong communicator who thrives on building meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will help create inclusive, engaging environments for young people and support those with identified talent to access further development opportunities.

You have a genuine appreciation for the strengths and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and are committed to supporting pathways for young people to succeed through the power of sport.

At Moriarty Foundation, we are committed to gender equity in our leadership team. We strongly encourage applications from women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds for this role.

Who You Are
* An Experienced Leader: You know how to manage people, resolve conflict and build a culture of accountability and empathy.

* Experience in Youth Development Through Sport or Community Programs: You bring experience working with young people, ideally in a sporting or coaching environment and have a passion for developing individuals and building strong, connected teams. You’re able to translate these skills into positive outcomes for both participants and staff.

* A Great Communicator: You can move seamlessly between engaging a young participant, mentoring a staff member, and reporting to the Coaching and Performance Program Manager.

* Culturally Competent: You are committed to the Moriarty Foundation’s mission and have a deep respect for the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do

Program Delivery - John Moriarty Football (JMF)

* Deliver JMF programs across schools, after-school sessions and holiday clinics, integrating football with wellbeing, nutrition and gender equality messaging. Adapt sessions using our internal framework to meet children's needs and support Community Coaches in delivery.

* Manage session logistics, including setup, equipment and attendance tracking, in collaboration with the Community Hub Coordinator. Lead after-school sessions and maintain high standards of professionalism, attendance and behaviour.

* Mentor staff and players, including through the use of video technology via Hudl and identify talented participants for progression into the talent ID pathways.

Team Leadership

* Lead the recruitment, onboarding and development of Community Coaches in collaboration with the Program Manager. Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion and continuous improvement through mentoring, shadow coaching and regular feedback.

* Manage staff performance, welfare and conduct, addressing issues proactively and escalating where required. Oversee scheduling, attendance, leave and accurate record-keeping, working closely with the Community Hub Coordinator.

* Participate in technical meetings, including video analysis and commit to ongoing professional development and training.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

* Build and maintain strong relationships with local clubs, schools, families and community stakeholders to support JMF outcomes. Contribute to a positive hub culture, participate in community events and engage with the Community Advisory Group and school leaders. Promote program awareness and continuous improvement.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to lead a program that uses the power of sport to create genuine social change. You’ll receive ongoing professional development, including Indigenous Mental Health First Aid and applicable coaching certifications, all while helping the next generation of Indigenous talent change the game in Australia.
