Coolabah Capital Investments (CCI) is a global fixed-income firm managing over AUD $16billion of funds under management. CCI focuses on generating alpha from long and short security-specific investments. This is facilitated through quantitative proprietary modelling combined with credit research. The team includes 53+ talented, full-time staff located in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, London and Miami.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Business Analyst will be responsible for processing large volumes of unit holder registry data, calculating accurate rebate and financial planner commission amounts, and generating insightful fund performance analytics. The role includes preparing daily flash P&L; estimates, budgeting, forecasting, and conducting ad-hoc financial modelling and analytical tasks.
The ideal candidate will be naturally curious about finding ways to improve efficiency and accuracy. Prior experience in process automation would be advantageous. Key Responsibilities
- Rebates & Commission Calculations: Receive and process unit holder registry data, fund performance data, and detailed fee data (management fees, admin fees, performance fees). Calculate rebates and capital partner commission amounts accurately and in line with contractual agreements. Regularly validate data integrity and reconcile calculations to ensure accuracy.
- Daily Fund Performance Analytics (Flash P&L;): Manage and interpret daily unit prices, gross asset values, and fee accrual data. Produce a timely daily flash P&L; estimate for distribution to senior management. Identify trends and variances in fund performance and promptly communicate insights.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Build and maintain robust budgeting and forecasting models for the funds management business. Provide regular budget updates and forecasts, clearly outlining assumptions and implications. Track performance against budget and identify areas requiring attention or adjustment. Conduct detailed financial analysis and modelling tasks as requested by senior management or the CFO. Support strategic decisions with insightful quantitative analysis and scenario modelling. Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver ad-hoc analytical support to the broader business.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency across reporting and data processing tasks. Leverage existing automations (developed to date using Power Automate) to reduce manual effort and enhance accuracy. Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement new automation initiatives.
Skills and experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in financial analysis, process improvement, fund accounting, or a similar analytical role.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling, complex formulas, pivot tables, and ideally VBA or macros.
- Experience working with large data sets; familiarity with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI/Power Query, or similar is advantageous. Experience with Snowflake cloud database and data analytics tools such as Workiva highly regarded.
- Solid understanding of fund structures, unit trusts, fee calculations, and the asset management industry would be advantageous, but not essential.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial insights effectively.
