Overview
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a passionate, motivated and patient focused Head of Department, Histopathology to join the team on a full time basis based at our Subiaco Laboratory in Western Australia.
As Head of Department, you will be responsible for providing leadership as a part of the day-to-day Histopathology team, in a "hands on" role, performing and validating a broad range of complex and varied investigations consistently and accurately.
This role would be ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their career. You will be a self-motivated individual, who can demonstrate an attention to detail, along with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on outstanding customer service. The salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Rostering, supervision and training of staff in the Microbiology department
* Perform competency assessments, performance management and audits
* Manage work flow processes, budgets and department plans
* Attending to the care, storage and processing of pathology specimens
* Quality monitoring and improvement
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
* Minimum 5 years' recent experience in a diagnostic clinical pathology environment, with specific experience in a dedicated Clinical Histopathology department.
* Previous experience in leading a team would be advantageous
* The ability to identify and analyse issues, problems and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
* Good computer skills, excellent customer service skills and telephone manner
* Exceptional time management skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with the team, Pathologists, referring Doctors and patients
* Understanding of, and commitment to maintaining NATA accreditation standards.
* Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WHS policies and guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy workplace
