- A transport manager is responsible for planning and supervising shipments, scheduling routes, tracking orders and ensuring proper storage and distribution of products. They monitor transportation costs, maintain records and ensure compliance with shipping regulations.
- Plan & supervise the shipments from production to the end-user.
- Schedule daily and weekly routes.
- Track orders using functional systems (e.g various & tracking software)
- Coordinate with warehouse workers to ensure proper storage and distribution of products.
- Monitor & report on transportation cost.
- Ensure shipping documents are properly filed.
- Report maintenance & repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment.
- Research & suggest cost effective shipping methods.
- Conduct regular safety audits on equipment.
- Organise training sessions for employees (e.g. proper use of machines & handling of hazardous materials)
- Keep organised records of vehicle, schedules & complete records
- Ensure compliance with company policies & shipping legislation.
- Stay up-to-date with safety regulations.
- Managing & develop transportation staff,including hiring, training, & performance management.
- Develop & maintain transportation performance metrics and reports and use data to identify areas for improvement.
- Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, Union contracts and government regulations.
- Manage relationships with transportation vendors and negotiate contracts and rates.
- Roven work experience as a transportation manager,shipping manager or similar role
- Solid knowledge of supply chain management.
- Experience preparing & tracking orders.
- Familiarity with logistics software like freight view and 3Plink.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to supervise & train staff.
- Problem-solving abilities.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Analytical & problem solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
- BSC in supply chain, logistics or relevant field is a plus.
