DFV Child & Youth Counsellor (Team Leader)
Are you passionate about providing counselling and advocacy support to children and young people who are experiencing, or who have experienced domestic and family violence (DFV)?
Community Action Inc has a DFV Child & Youth Counsellor (Team Leader) position available for commencement immediately within our Gympie Region Domestic and Family Violence Service (GRDFVS).
Contract to the 30th June 2027
Full‑time position (38h/wk preferred, however will consider flexible working arrangements / reduced hours for the right candidate)
Mandatory Requirements
* Current Blue Card for working with children or ability to acquire same.
* Current Driver's Licence.
* Eligibility to work in Australia.
Selection Criteria
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field e.g. Bachelor Psychology, Bachelor Counselling, Bachelor Human Services/Social Work Majoring in Counselling, or similar.
* A knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice.
* Team Leader experience in similar role/s with demonstrated leadership skills.
* Demonstrated experience supporting a counselling team including the ability to provide clinical support (debriefing, practice frameworks, best practice, critical reflection etc).
* Demonstrated children's counselling experience and high level skills in crisis intervention and interviewing.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impacts of DFV on women and children and the ability to respond effectively in a sensitive and confidential manner.
* Demonstrated understanding of safety issues for people affected by DFV, in particular children, and staff assisting them.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant legal processes and legislation relevant to DFV.
* Demonstrated understanding of the social, political and gendered nature of DFV from a feminist perspective.
* Demonstrated understanding of working within a case management framework.
* Interest and ability to work within a Strength Based Practice model.
* Ability to work in a community-based organisation, to participate within a staff team in a collaborative and supportive manner, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
