Field Leader

Safely lead a diverse team of expeditioners on a Deep Field Campaign, Traverse or Science project in a remote location.

* Annual base salary in Australia starts from $147,594 per annum.
* Base salary + additional allowances in Antarctica starts from $218,131 per annum.
* Employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
* You accrue recreation leave at equivalent of 20 days per annum pro rata. Recreation leave is not available in Antarctica but will be paid out on return to Australia.

Responsibilities

* Lead a Deep Field Campaign, Traverse or Science Project in a remote location for an extended duration.
* Ensure safety of personnel, build and maintain harmonious team, achieve scientific and operational objectives.
* Manage and task resources (personnel, aviation assets, watercraft, vehicles) and coordinate programs within the campaign to deliver outcomes in an isolated, deep field setting.

What we are looking for

Qualifications and Licences

* Driver's licence – current, unrestricted "C" class (manual) Australian driver's licence.
* Australian citizenship required; non‐citizens considered only if no suitable Australian applicants.

Obtain prior to job commencement

* Valid Passport and visa at least 6 months beyond planned end date of intended stay.
* First Aid (HLTAID011) valid for at least 18 months beyond commencement.
* Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010) valid for at least 18 months beyond commencement.
* CPR (HLTAID009) valid for at least 6 months beyond commencement.
* ASIC/MSIC license if required for aviation or maritime security zone access.

Knowledge and Experience

* Proven ability to lead people in remote and challenging environments.
* Experience managing complex and remote field operations.
* Ability to manage projects and stakeholders successfully.
* Experience in environmental, safety and risk management in remote environments.
* Emergency management experience.
* Previous supervisory team leadership experience.

Desirable

These are not essential but desirable.

* Recent experience in the Australian Antarctic Program or another National Antarctic Program within last three years in operational, field or leadership role.
* Project Management training.
* Workplace training and/or assessor qualification.
* Experience/qualifications related to specific campaigns such as traverse experience, oversnow vehicles, watercraft, aviation or drone operations, navigation, glacier travel.
* Advanced Level Medical training.

* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in dynamic environment.
* Proactive problem‐solving skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a diverse team.
