Fitter & Turner / Machinist – Rail Component – Workshop.

Our Valued Rail services client is one of the largest integrated & diversified suppliers of railroad, transit system products & services in Australia.
Opportunities currently exist for qualified Fitter & Turners / Machinists to undertake rail component machining, fitting, and assembly works across mining and rail production projects. Positions are based on a day shift, Monday to Friday, at a purpose-built workshop facility in Keysborough.
Role Tasks & Duties:
The role includes but not limited to:
• Precision machining of rail and mining components using manual and/or CNC lathes, milling machines, and drilling equipment
• Set-up, operation, and adjustment of machinery to produce components to exact tolerances
• Assembly, fitting, alignment, and adjustment of rail components including pantograph assemblies and associated mechanical parts
• Machining, pressing, and milling of precut rail components in a controlled workshop environment
• Interpreting detailed engineering and schematic drawings to ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards
• Conducting dimensional checks using precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometres, gauges)
• Forklift and overhead crane operation to safely reposition large-scale components and materials
• Identifying faults, performing corrective machining or adjustments, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
• Providing recommendations to management on machining methods, tooling, and procedures to improve efficiency and quality
Required Skills, Experience and Competencies:
• Australian Trade Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitter & Turner / Machinist)
• Minimum 2 years' proven experience within a heavy industry environment (Mining, Rail, Aviation, Naval, Earth / Mobile Plant, Bus or similar)
• Previous experience in rail component machining, heavy maintenance, or freight maintenance activities highly desirable
• Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply technical and engineering drawings
• High attention to detail with accurate record keeping and quality control practices
• Ability to organise and prioritise work tasks efficiently in both autonomous and team-based workshop environments
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to further skills and knowledge through ongoing training
Additional requirements:
* Passing a pre-employment medical.
* Australian fulltime working rights.
* A valid HRW LF Forklift License & Overhead crane verification of competency advantageous.
