Role: Senior Electrical Project Engineer
We're looking for a Senior Electrical Project Engineer who can bring deep technical know-how, calm judgment, and practical project experience to complex electrical and control systems work. You'll play a key role in shaping projects that protect communities, support growth and keep essential services running every day.
About the Role
As a Senior Electrical Project Engineer, you'll be one of the go-to people for electrical and control systems on our projects.
You will:
* Provide technical leadership and governance across the full project lifecycle – from early design and planning through to construction, commissioning and handover.
* Make sure designs are safe, buildable, compliant and genuinely "fit for construction".
* Support project teams with clear advice, smart problem solving and good engineering judgement.
* Work closely with designers, other disciplines and contractors to turn concepts into practical, cost-effective solutions.
* Help plan and manage work in live, brownfield environments, where outages and operational impacts need to be carefully managed.
Your work will directly contribute to delivering renewals and new assets that meet performance standards, engineering standards and operational needs.
What You'll Be Doing Day to Day:
In this role, you can expect to:
Own the technical integrity of the project
* Review and verify electrical and control designs and drawings.
* Check for compliance with standards, codes and project requirements.
* Champion safety in design and quality in everything we deliver.
Guide and support project and design teams
* Provide clear direction on standards, design choices and technical issues.
* Help resolve design clashes and technical queries as they come up.
* Coordinate specialist input where required and manage technical risks.
Manage quality and assurance
* Monitor engineering quality, key hold points and deliverables.
* Facilitate deviations from standards where appropriate and justified.
* Support planning, design reviews, acceptance testing and handover.
Work closely with contractors and stakeholders
* Engage in Early Contractor Involvement to shape methodology and costs.
* Collaborate with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and safe.
* Bring operators, maintainers and other stakeholders into the design process so assets work in the real world, not just on paper.
The Type of Work You'll Be Across:
You'll bring strong experience in the engineering and design of:
* LV and HV power reticulation and electrical distribution systems
* Power systems analysis and protection, including arc flash protection
* Backup power systems and earthing
* Electrical control systems
* Telemetry infrastructure and control/data networks
* SCADA architecture, system monitoring and control
What You'll Bring:
Must-have:
* Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Around 15+ years' experience leading and delivering electrical and control systems design and engineering on complex projects.
* Strong technical competence reviewing and verifying electrical documentation and drawings for compliance and constructability.
* A solid understanding of quality processes in engineering design and delivery.
* Proven experience leading teams, planning engineering resources and managing a range of stakeholders.
* Confidence working with multi-disciplinary teams across design and construction.
* Good understanding of operational needs, process interruption issues and planning for brownfield installations.
Nice-to-have (or you're keen to grow into):
* Experience in the water and wastewater sector, or similar process industries.
* Background in Design Management and/or Project Management.
* Experience facilitating HAZOP, CHAIR or other Safety in Design workshops.
* Familiarity with WSA standards and water utility engineering / project standards.
Why this Role Matters
You'll be part of a team delivering projects that make a real difference to the communities of Greater Sydney – from world-class drinking water to healthy waterways from the mountains to the sea.
If you enjoy solving complex electrical and control problems, working with good people, and seeing great engineering solutions built and operating in the real world, this role will give you plenty of opportunities to do your best work.
