About Life Without Barriers

Every day, Life Without Barriers provides support and care to children and young people, working with families, carers, and communities to ensure a safe and respectful environment for growth. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in young lives and help create a brighter future.

We are a leading social purpose organisation with 8,000 employees across more than 500 communities in Australia. We support children, young people, families, people with disabilities, older adults, and those with mental illnesses, including homeless individuals, refugees, and asylum seekers. Join a community dedicated to breaking down barriers.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and individuals with disabilities to reflect the diversity of our clients and meet their individual needs.

Why Start Your Career as a Youth Worker with Us?

Partnering with children, young people, and families to positively impact their lives is a rewarding privilege. Supporting those involved with or at risk of involvement in the child protection system requires passion, strength, expertise, and commitment. It's an opportunity to help them grow, learn, heal, and thrive.

Many of our current managers and practitioners began their careers as Youth Workers. This role is ideal for students, those seeking work/life balance, or anyone wanting to make a difference while gaining valuable experience.

About the Role

Working within the CARE model, you will support young people in our Child, Youth & Family programs using a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach. We seek experienced candidates to assist young people displaying complex and challenging behaviours, supporting activities like school drop-off and pick-up, meal prep, family contact, community access, and in-home support aligned with their goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Build and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people, fostering trust and active engagement.
* Act as a positive role model, encouraging participation in activities that develop life skills and self-worth.
* Support family involvement, facilitate visits and connections, and promote positive family relationships tailored to individual needs.
* Encourage positive relationships with peers and significant others.
* Assist young people in participating fully in decision-making about activities.
* Experience working with young people in residential settings is desirable; transferable experience from mental health, teaching, childcare, or youth detention is also valuable.
* Be confident in managing risk and assessments, responding effectively to young people's needs.
* Hold a valid Full Unrestricted Australian Driver's License.
* Obtain a valid First Aid Certificate and CPR certification (or willingness to do so before starting).
* Complete the Hope and Healing Framework Foundations prior to commencement (enrolled if successful).
