We are seeking a technically outstanding Associate Director – Building Structures to join our National Structures team. As a senior member of our team, you will provide technical leadership, project management, and structural engineering design expertise across a diverse portfolio of projects spanning Sports Infrastructure, Aviation, Education, Commercial, Defence, Healthcare, and Mixed‐Use developments.

This role is based in Brisbane.

How you'll make a difference
  • Lead the structural design and technical delivery of complex building projects, providing specialist engineering advice across a broad range of structural systems and materials including steel, concrete, timber, and hybrid solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams throughout project lifecycles, ensuring structural solutions are practical, sustainable and aligned with project objectives.
  • Drive excellence in project delivery by managing technical quality, commercial outcomes and risk across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Review and oversee structural analysis, design calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and AECOM's quality management systems.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across the structures team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing to integrated design outcomes and providing leadership on project budgets, schedules, resourcing and constructability strategies.
  • Contribute to business growth through client relationship management, project pursuits and identification of new opportunities across key market sectors.
The qualities that help you thrive
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Structural) and ideally 14+ years' experience delivering complex building structures projects across a range of sectors and building typologies within Australia and New Zealand. Chartered status (CPEng and/or RPEQ)
  • Demonstrated experience leading structural design teams and managing the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects from concept through to construction.
  • Proven ability to provide high‐level technical leadership and structural engineering input autonomously across both conceptual and detailed design stages.
  • Strong understanding of Australian design standards, building codes and industry best practice, with experience across a variety of structural materials and systems.
  • Extensive experience with industry‐standard structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, RAM Concept, RAPT, SpaceGASS, Strand7 or equivalent.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, business development and client‐facing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate and engage effectively with clients, architects, contractors and internal teams at all levels.

Given the nature of our projects, Australian Citizenship is required.
