The Opportunity We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Capacity Planning Engineer to join us in our ID Transmission & Storage Engineering team in Sydney or Melbourne on a full time permanent basis. Reporting to the Manager Capacity Planning, you will play a key role for ensuring the company’s energy infrastructure can meet current and future demand. They analyze capacity data, forecast demand, and develop plans to optimize the use of APA Group’s assets. Key Responsibilities Develop capacity plans to ensure optimal utilisation and growth of assets Analyze capacity of transmission pipeline for connection of new customers Forecast future demand based on historical data and business growth plans Collaborate with internal teams to implement capacity plans Monitor the execution of capacity plans and adjust as necessary Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations during capacity planning activities Your background Experience with an engineering degree, preferably Chemical Engineering Strong knowledge of gas transmission capacity planning principles Excellent analytical skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Strong communication skills to coordinate capacity planning activities effectively About the Team The Capacity Planning team provides strategic planning and conceptual design support for APA’s Gas Transmission business. They develop long term capacity augmentation plans by building and maintaining hydraulic models, conducting technical assessments, and evaluating new configurations to expand pipeline capabilities. Their work also includes preparing conceptual designs and technical specifications for new pipelines, compressors, and related facilities to support budgeting, business cases, and regulatory approvals. The team also extends its technical expertise to emerging energy projects beyond natural gas. This includes creating concept designs for hydrogen and carbon dioxide projects, assessing the impact of renewable energy on natural gas demand, and supporting APA’s emissions reduction initiatives. Through this work, Capacity Planning helps position APA for a low carbon future while ensuring the continued efficient operation and growth of APA’s assets.
