The CatholicCare Central Queensland and Helem Yumba Domestic & Family Violence Response program provides a range of collaborative and person-centred support interventions to adults, children and young people who are experiencing, or who are at risk of experiencing, domestic and family violence. The partnership between CatholicCare and Helem Yumba is a first for our region, ensuring that all domestic and family violence supports are provided in a culturally safe way.
About the Role
The Domestic and Family Practitioner aims to support the safety and wellbeing of Women and Children experiencing and affected by Family and Domestic Violence though a variety of supports using a case management framework.
Services are delivered in alignment with the Queensland Government Domestic and Family Violence Investment Specifications.
In addition to Case Management, Practitioners may also provide court support.
The Specific services to be delivered either in individual or group settings generally include:
Undertaking a risk assessment and develop a safety plan (potentially including identifying strategies to escape and protect children)
Undertaking activities to support including, seeking refuge, preparation, or applications for DV orders
Support Clients to access services via appropriate referrals.
Assist with accessing home security safety upgrades
Professional client advocacy
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum three years' experience within community / human services sector
Qualification in community and human services service (Degree level desirable but, not essential)
Current C or CA class Driver's license (QLD)
Core Competencies
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Effectively follow, implement and communicate the intake processes and systems to all relevant parties.
Exceptional communication skills to work collaboratively with clients, external stakeholders and diverse teams.
Ability to work autonomously.
Ability to provide client assessments on safety and risk
Knowledge of trauma informed practice and attachments relating to domestic family violence within family systems
Sound Information and Communication Technology skills.
Other Requirements
Understanding of the confidentiality practice within the Child protection and Domestic and Family Violence legislation.
Ability to work within the legal limitations around the right to confidentiality and privacy.
Knowledge of the issues effecting families and individuals who maybe experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse, trauma informed practice, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.
The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.
