1. Position Purpose
To perform and supervise wind turbine blade inspection, maintenance, and repair activities in compliance with OEM standards, GWO/IRATA guidelines, and Vivablast safety procedures.
The Blade Specialist is responsible for carrying out composite repair works safely and efficiently, ensuring the quality and structural integrity of turbine blades.
2. Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Conduct blade inspections to identify cracks, delamination, lightning damage, and other surface or structural defects.
* Perform composite repair works (grinding, lamination, resin application, sanding, and surface finishing).
* Carry out blade cleaning, polishing, and coating restoration to maintain aerodynamic performance.
* Prepare repair plans and progress reports based on OEM specifications and client instructions.
* Support root cause analysis and recommend preventive actions to improve blade durability.
* Work at height using rope access systems or blade access platforms following IRATA / GWO safety standards.
* Ensure tools, equipment, and consumables are inspected, maintained, and fit for use.
* Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and rescue drills.
* Coordinate with the Project Manager and Client Representatives to ensure repair quality and timely completion.
* Maintain proper documentation for all inspection and repair activities.
3. Qualifications & Experience
· Education: Vocational or Technical training is acceptable.
· Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in blade repair or composite work.
· Certifications (mandatory or preferred):
* GWO BST (Basic Safety Training)
* GWO Blade Repair Certificate or OEM-approved Blade Repair Training (e.g., Siemens, LM, Vestas)
* IRATA / SPRAT certification (preferred for rope access work)
* First Aid Certificate
* NDT Level II (advantageous)
4. Key Skills & Competencies
* Skilled in composite material repair and finishing techniques.
* Strong knowledge of blade structure, aerodynamics, and material behaviour.
* Practical understanding of HSE requirements and safe work at height.
* Good teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving ability.
* Capable of communicating in basic English for safety and reporting purposes.
* Focused on quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
5. Physical & Environmental Conditions
* Must be physically fit for working at height and in offshore environments.
* Able to work under variable weather conditions (wind, rain, humidity, temperature).
* Willing to travel or work on rotation depending on project needs.
