About Us

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most‐loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Make a Real Difference | Are you ready to stand alongside families at their most vulnerable and empower them to rebuild their lives?

At The Salvation Army, we believe no one should face homelessness alone. Through compassion, commitment, and community, we work to ensure families have access to safe, secure, and dignified housing. Join us in this life‐changing mission.

About the Role

We're looking for a passionate and skilled Accommodation Options for Families (AOF) Support Worker to join our dedicated team. This role is part of the Western Metro Homelessness Service and is vital in helping families facing or experiencing homelessness to access secure and sustainable housing options.

As an AOF Support Worker, you'll deliver trauma‐informed, person‐centred case management to families at risk of entering rooming houses or other unsuitable accommodation. You'll work across the LGAs of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Wyndham, Melton, and Moonee Valley — reaching out to those who need support the most.

This is more than a job — it's a chance to walk alongside people during critical moments in their lives and help them regain stability, hope, and confidence.

Reporting to the Support Services Coordinator, this is a permanent full‐time position, based in Sunshine, VIC. Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver holistic case management through outreach to families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including those in crisis, transitional, or private rental accommodation.
  • Empower families using a strengths‐based approach, promoting self‐efficacy, informed decision‐making, and long‐term, realistic housing solutions.
  • Advocate with housing providers and agencies to achieve sustainable housing outcomes, prevent tenancy breakdowns, and increase awareness of tenancy rights.
  • Maintain accurate client records and uphold compliance with TSA policies, administrative tasks, legislative requirements, and contribute to ongoing projects and service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related community services field.
  • Experience working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.
  • Deep understanding of the complexities of homelessness and systemic barriers.
  • Exceptional communication, advocacy, and relationship‐building skills.
  • A passion for social justice, equity, and empowering others.
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check.
  • A current Driver's Licence.
Benefits
  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax‐free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
  • Generous Paid Parental leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers, Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Access to EAP and health & wellness initiatives including Fitness Passport.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities that enhance on‐the‐job skills and proficiency.
  • Rewarding and fulfilling purpose‐driven careers that have positive and sustainable/social impacts.
Additional Information
