About the Opportunity

At Port Macquarie-Hastings Council (PMHC), every employee plays a key role in delivering positive outcomes for our community. We are currently seeking a Flood Officer to join our Infrastructure Planning and Design team on a temporary contract (26 June 2026 – 10 June 2027).

In this role, you will provide specialist technical advice and coordinate floodplain management projects in line with Council's strategic direction. You will support the development and delivery of flood studies, floodplain risk management plans, and infrastructure programs that improve community safety and resilience.

This is a varied and technically focused role involving project delivery, engineering advice, stakeholder engagement, and policy development across Council and external partners.

What You'll Be Doing

* Provide specialist floodplain and stormwater advice across Council and development assessment processes
* Lead and support the delivery of Flood Studies and Floodplain Risk Management Plans
* Assist in developing and reviewing Council flood-related policies, strategies and planning controls
* Prepare and manage a program of flood investigations, studies and capital works projects
* Manage flood-related projects in line with Council's Project Management Framework
* Prepare and manage grant applications under the NSW Floodplain Management Program
* Provide technical input into development applications, certifications, and planning proposals
* Review flood studies, flood impact assessments and related technical reports
* Assist with floodplain asset planning, renewal programs and maintenance priorities
* Manage consultants and contractors delivering flood-related studies and works
* Prepare environmental assessments in accordance with relevant legislation
* Respond to community and stakeholder enquiries regarding flooding and flood risk
* Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, standards and Council policies

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
* Strong knowledge of floodplain management, legislation and best practice
* Experience delivering technical or environmental management projects
* Proven project and contract management capability
* Ability to interpret data and apply sound technical judgement to complex problems
* Experience contributing to policy, strategy or technical documentation
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Remuneration and Benefits

Employment Type: Full time, Temporary (26 June 2026 – 10 June 2027), 35 hours per week

Weekly Salary: Starting from $1,671.83 to $1,871.29 depending on skills and experience plus 12% super
