The Local Laws Officer provide local laws, littering, compliance and enforcement which actively promote the understanding of Activities Local Law, Environment Local Law, Environmental Protection Act, Road Safety Act, and other legislation where applicable, for the safety and benefit of the community and visitors to the City of Melbourne.
The Local Laws Officer will proactively identify breaches of legislation and respond to requests for service with the relevant legislation, take necessary action to achieve compliance, issue appropriate compliance notices (including infringements) and, where necessary, participate in the prosecution of offenders in the courts.
As a part of our City Safety, Security and Amenity Branch, the Local Laws Officer are at the forefront as a representative of the City of Melbourne, helping create a safe and accepting culture for our residents, as well as helping continue to help cultivate the constructive and encouraging dynamic within the branch.
The Local Laws Officer will also play a key educational role within the community, and provide a high level of support to specific educational and enforcement campaigns.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values - accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
- Ability and willingness to adapt to a dynamic work environment with a flexible and positive approach to change, and personal learning and development
- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to deal with customers at all levels in a tactful and courteous manner
- Proven skills in written communication including the ability to prepare status reports, statistical information, and recommendations for improvements to processes, procedures and methods of work
In addition, the **Local Laws Officer** will ideally have the following:
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and the ability to remain calm, objective and in control when dealing with customer issues and concerns.
- Sound computer skills including ability to use customer databases, the Microsoft Office range, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook), and other programs/ technologies used in compliance and enforcement activities
- Hold a valid Full Victorian Driver Licence
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline such as Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and or equivalent relevant experience - Preferable but not mandatory
The Local Laws Officer will work a **9-day fortnight rotating roster**, and **must** be able to work between the hours of **7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Sunday**.
