Mechanical Design Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design group, you will play a critical role in creating innovative solutions for the water industry.
About Your Role:
* You will be responsible for developing detailed engineering documentation and contributing to the development of products such as water treatment plants, chemical dosing systems, and other specialized equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
* Develop preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis.
* Create, review, and update design specifications, documentation, and material lists.
* Prepare comprehensive design and fabrication documentation packages for project engineers, fabricators, and installers.
* Ensure all drawings and assemblies meet customer specifications, codes, and relevant industry standards.
* Estimate material and production costs for proposed designs.
* Research and evaluate new materials for design applications.
* Organize and maintain engineering documentation and design archives.
* Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure timely and accurate submission of design deliverables.
* Construct prototypes and validate designs with the project team when required.
* Support project engineering activities including procurement, factory build supervision, engineering documentation, and tendering assistance.
Requirements:
* A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar engineering or design role.
* Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks and AutoCAD, along with engineering analysis tools.
* A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
* A self-starter mindset, comfortable working both independently and within a small, collaborative team.
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams and external clients – both written and verbal.
* A tertiary qualification in an engineering discipline preferred.
* Solid understanding of SHEQ standards, relevant Australian regulations, and statutory compliance.
* Experience in process industries, particularly water treatment and/or chemical engineering preferred. Exposure to design and build projects in mining or manufacturing is highly desirable.
